The Proviso East Pirates took home the 2017 Proviso West Holiday Tournament Consolation Championship, outlasting the Proviso West Panthers, 71-64 late last month.

According to a game summary found on the tournament's website, "The Pirates led the entire game, including opening a 42-23, 19-point lead in the third quarter before the Panthers made a furious comeback, narrowing the gap all the way down to seven, 71-64, with 26 seconds to play in the fourth quarter.

"The Pirates featured a balanced effort that saw four in double-figures scoring, led by Quinlan Bennett's 18. Jordan Morris and Trevor Moore added 13 apiece while Jaelon Hood finished with 12 points and 10 assists in the winning effort."

In the tournament's championship game, Orr defeated Whitney Young, 77 to 62, to secure the tournament championship.

I was at the Proviso West Holiday Tournament and it was an amazing rivalry basketball game. I have to give the Pirates a lot of credit, because they defeated four of the Top Division Players from Proviso West. Coach Donnie Boyce had an amazing strategy that led the Proviso East Boys Varsity Team won the Consolidation Championship. Thank you Michael for writing an article about my high school alma mater that has a wonderful basketball program and history of Proviso East. One suggestion: Can you find a photo of the board members of District #209 posing with the Proviso East Boys basketball team holding the championship?
