Don't look at your calendar but as of this writing, spring hasn't even arrived, yet the magnolia, plum blossoms, jonquils, forsythia and more are in full bloom. It scares me.
You missed an exciting afternoon at Centuries & Sleuths as Kathryn Atwood discussed her stories of 26 heroic women of World War II - stories of espionage, sabotage, resistance and rescue. The book is supposedly for young adults, but it is so well written and so thoroughly researched, it is inspiring for everyone. Augie, Tracy and I highly recommend it.

The Symphony of Oak Park-River Forest will perform the much-loved Dvorak New World Symphony at Dominican University this Sunday, March 25 at 4 p.m. There's plenty of convenient parking.
Have you heard the rumor that the soon-to-be shoe store at the corner of Beloit and Madison will be a cousin to the famous Craig's, now in Berwyn? The new store will sell women's shoes and accessories, but not kids shoes. There's not enough room in the space. The original Craig's will still be there on 22nd Street.
Congrats to Emily Fitzgerald, daughter of Paul and Elizabeth Fitzgerald, who won a presidential scholarship worth $52,000 over four years from the University of Iowa.
Congratulations to young entrepreneur, Payton Hawkton who has opened a sidewalk nails shop. Sales were slow, to say the least, so she and a few friends plan on opening a lemonade stand somewhere near Grant-White School later in the season.
On March 29, Centuries and Sleuths bookstore will feature author Jeff Mudgett who will discuss and sign copies of his newest work, "Bloodstains" (based on a true story).That's at 7 p.m. on Thursday. These author discussions are always so great - try to get to one once in a while.
