A Maywood man has been charged with killing Michael Harris about 4:34 a.m. at the intersection of Elgin Avenue and Adams Street on June 10, according to a statement issued by the Forest Park police department.

Police charged Martell Dorsey, 23, with one count of first degree murder and one count of felony murder in the commission of robbery, after Harris, 66, of Chicago, was found lying at the intersection with a gunshot wound.

That morning, Forest Park officers responded to Elgin and Adams for multiple calls of shots fired.

Oak Park police spotted a man whose description matched that of the offender walking east from Harlem Avenue onto Jackson Boulevard in Oak Park. When he saw police, the man ran through several yards and was eventually found hiding in a crawl space.

He was holding ammunition at the time of his arrest, and a Glock pistol was recovered near where he was found hiding. The weapon was stolen from an auxiliary Forest Park police officer's locked car on June 9. Police said the burglar used force to enter the vehicle.

The Forest Park Investigative Division, along with the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and Forensics, are investigating the shooting.
