A 25-year-old Forest Park man was shot during an early morning home invasion in Oak Park on June 25 in the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue, according to Oak Park police.

Police said in a news release that they responded to a 911 call at about 2 a.m. and found the victim in the backyard of the house. Police say the gunshot victim was visiting the residence where the shooting occurred.

Witnesses said the victim and several individuals were in the basement of the home when a one of the individuals responded to a knock at the door and three armed men “pointed guns at him and forced their way inside,” according to police.

The gunmen announced they were robbing the home, police said, and began taking the personal possessions of those in the basement.

The victims told police that they then heard a gunshot from the yard and the offenders ran out of the basement. They then heard cries for help and found the gunshot victim lying on the ground in the backyard.

The victim reportedly had tried to escape the basement by crawling through a window but was shot by another armed man waiting outside.

The gunshot victim was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, but his condition was unknown.
