Police uncover gun in battered car
Police watched a man pacing outside a battered car parked at the Forest Park Blue Line station at 9:02 p.m. on Aug. 1. They searched the vehicle in their database and found its temporary registration was invalid.
Megan Sullivan, 22, of Glendale Heights, exited the vehicle at 711 Desplaines. Because it is considered a high narcotics area, the officer found the couple’s actions suspicious and approached Sullivan asking to see her driver’s license and vehicle registration. Sullivan showed police her license and said she had just bought the car from some guy in Chicago and didn’t have registration yet. Sullivan could not specify where in Chicago she bought the car and said the pacing man was her boyfriend.
Officers searched her vehicle and uncovered a semi-automatic handgun in the glove box. Sullivan did not have a concealed carry license or firearm owner’s identification card. An identity check revealed she is a convicted felon. Sullivan was transferred to the station and charged with a felony for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
Five cars broken into
Between 10:30 p.m. on July 29 and 7:30 a.m. on July 30, someone broke into a Chrysler parked on the 1000 block of Desplaines. The victim said nothing was taken from his car, but he woke to find the vehicle’s trunk, hood and glove compartment open.
Sometime between 7 p.m. on July 29 and 8 a.m. on July 30, someone broke into a Nissan parked on the 1000 block of Desplaines. Nothing was taken; the victim said she didn’t remember locking her car doors.
A woman reported a Cadillac parked on the 1000 block of Desplaines broken into at 8:33 a.m. on July 30. The woman said the vehicle’s owner lives in a rehabilitative facility. She woke that morning to find the driver’s door and glove compartment open and contents scattered on the passenger seat.
Between 12:30 and 7 a.m. on July 30, someone broke into a Ford parked on the 1000 block of Dunlop. The victim is unsure if he locked the doors.
Sometime between 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 and 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 3, someone stole a catalytic converter from a Honda parked on the 400 block of Thomas.
Thief rides off with bike
Between 2:45 p.m. on July 26 and 1:45 p.m. on July 30, someone stole a Townie bicycle valued at $200 from the Forest Park Blue Line stop, 711 Desplaines.
7-11 employee punched over soda size
A man punched a clerk at 7-11, 7749 Roosevelt Road, about 11:25 p.m. on July 31, after he tried to use an extra-large size cup for soda, when he had only purchased a large size.
Police arrived and found the employee with a swollen eye. The victim told police a man walked in and paid a dollar for a Big Gulp soda. The man then walked to the back of the store and started filling a Double Gulp cup. The employee told the man to dump the contents of the Double Gulp into a Big Gulp cup, but the man refused and punched the employee in the face, knocking him to the floor.
The man then walked out of the store. He forgot his phone, which the employee gave to police.
Thefts at Walmart
A couple stole a woman’s Samsung Galaxy phone after she left it at the checkout in Walmart, 1300 Desplaines, at 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 1. The victim told police she forgot her cellphone on the counter, returned 10 minutes later, and it was no longer there. Walmart security cameras revealed the couple behind her taking the cellphone off the counter and placing it in their shopping cart. The phone is valued at $800.
A woman’s wallet was either lost or stolen at Walmart about 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 3. The woman last remembers seeing her wallet when she showed a store employee a receipt, but then 15 minutes later, she entered her car and it was gone. The wallet contained $420 cash, a prescription for Percocet, a flash drive, a state ID, insurance cards, a LINK card, a a debit card, Ventra card, three apartment keys and more.
Purse stolen at Doc Ryan’s
A woman told police someone stole her purse from Doc Ryan’s around 12:30 a.m. on August 3. The victim told police she walked away from her purse at 7432 Madison for a few minutes and that when she returned it was gone. The purse contained her state identification card, credit card, insurance card and car keys.
Cash turns up on Desplaines
A woman found an unknown amount of cash on Desplaines Avenue. If someone lost the money, they must tell police how much they lost and how it was contained, according to police.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, July 30-Aug. 5, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
