Nicole Wagner and Drew Carter are now Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Carter as of April 23. But a near tragedy was averted shortly before the nuptials began. And I do mean shortly. About fifteen minutes before the ceremony Drew’s best man asked for the rings. Drew’s eyes got big, his eyebrows went up and he began patting all his pockets frantically. No rings!
He ran out of the church, jumped into the waiting limo and the driver sped back to the house. There, Drew burst out of the car, sprinted up the stairs, retrieved the rings, sprinted back into the car and made it to the church just about two minutes after the starting time.
Bev Thompson has more big plans afoot. On Thursday, May 12 at 1 p.m., the community center will be showing The Notebook, no reservations necessary. Popcorn will be served, transportation by appointment, no charge.
On Thursday, June 9, Ocean’s Twelve will be playing, starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Catherine Zeta-Jones”free! Reservations not required! And again, popcorn! The whole thing starts at 1 p.m.
Incidentally, a former student of mine has a small walk-on in that movie, unless they cut him. He got paid, though.
The Community Center will be going to a Cubs game on Wednesday, September 28 (last game of the season at Wrigley Field). Cost is $25 for residents, $28 non-resident. Payment is due by Friday, June 17.

Apologies to Marge Zwadlo. Marge was one of the brave spellers who entered the Literacy Volunteers spelling contest. And I misspelled her name! Not only is Marge a prize winning speller, she’s a budding artist and will be in the Art Show at Triton on May 4. If you’d like to admire her work and the works of fellow students, there will be a reception in the evening, in Building “F.” Marge’s teacher is Dennis McNamara, an inspiration, according to Marge.
Katrina Jones was one of the centerpiece winners at Saint Bernardine’s recent dinner. Her mother is artist Linda Dylewski and according to her grandson, Frankie Dylewski if you stand still too long, grandma will paint you. The centerpiece will make a nice still life. It probably is already.
Saint Bernardine’s will hold its annual Family Fest on Sunday, May 22nd from noon until dusk. You are invited to join the parish at the 11:30 a.m. mass and continue on to the festivities. Admission is free, food available from some of our wonderful restaurants such as Jimmy’s Marbuzet, Salerno’s Pizza, cotton candy, and on and on. Call Deb Michalak at 261-2441 for more information.
