Just as this paper went to press last week, we heard the unspeakably sad news of the death of one of Forest Park’s newest residents, Tanner Osborn. Tanner was a likable, talented young man”he was 22-years-old. “T.J.” moved to Forest Park from Arizona and recently started a music company with a few friends. Tragically, Tanner and two of his friends perished in a fire. Sincere sympathy to his family and friends.

Mystery lovers will be delighted to hear that Sara Paretsky will be in town autographing copies of her latest book,Fire Sale at Centuries & Sleuths on Tuesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. That’s at 7419 Madison Street. The Battle of Waterloo (historically accurate) is also still in the window.

Shirley Christell was happy to welcome Charlie Kalra to the family of the Friends of the Forest Park Library. Shirley’s “friends” were on hand to sell a few books at the recent “Summerfest.” Sale books are always available at the library so drop in and find a bargain. One year a patron found a first edition of Daphne DuMaurier’s Rebecca!

The staff of the library honored Cathi Taylor at a luncheon recently. The “friends” wanted to honor her, too, but Cathi said “enough luncheons already! Maybe the friends could make a donation to Youth Services at the library.”

Those dedicated library workers have been using their own money to buy art supplies for the kids. The Taylor’s new house is under construction in Beaver Dam, so I guess they’ll really be leaving us.

Bev Thompson is famous for many things, among them, the monthly mystery trips she plans. But last week she outdid herself. The travelers had a SURPRISE trip. The surprise was they were abandoned in the woods on an old electric trolley and left there! Fortunately not forever and everyone took the mishap philosophically. However, no one will ever forget that trip.
