The group Citizens United in Forest Park (CUinFP) will be holding voter registration drives during District 91 registration throughout the week. The drives began Tuesday, and will continue Wednesday and Thursday from 12 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.
“Our group has been sponsoring voter registration from the beginning. We believe the right to vote is an important one,” said CUinFP President Steve Backman.
He said that school registration is an ideal time for a registration drive since parents are already there with all the documents needed to register.
CUinFP has held three other voter registration drives in the last year, one at Ultra Foods and two at the Forest Park Public Library.
Backman said that in the fall, the group hopes to host a training session for people who would like to become voter registrars. “Anyone who is a registered voter can be a voter registrar and register voters on their own,” he said.
He said that two Cook County election representatives would be on hand to conduct the training session, which will take place at an undetermined site in Forest Park.
Those interested in training to become voter registrars should contact CUinFP at (708) 771-2478. Backman said he expected that there would be room for 20-25 people to train.
