The District 91 board of education appointed Lois Bugajsky as board president at its meeting last Thursday, following the departure of former president Marilyn Garapolo who stepped down November 10.

Bugajsky had been serving as the board’s vice president, and according to board policy is automatically promoted upon the resignation of the board president.

The board also voted unanimously to promote Glenn Garlisch to vice president. In nominating Garlisch for the job, board member Steve Johnsen said the move is a “natural step” for Garlisch, who he said was likely to eventually become board president.

“I was honored to be nominated and appreciate the vote of confidence from my fellow school board members,” said Garlisch, who also serves on the village’s Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.

The board then appointed Sean A. Blaylock, who has four children attending the Grant-White elementary school, as its newest member during a closed session meeting.

Blaylock was out of town and unavailable for comment at press time. He will officially begin serving on the school board in December.
