This year’s holiday walk will feature a live window display contest, which will be sponsored by the Chamber and the Review. According to Kokenes, merchants have been informed that their displays should include “people, action and movement.”

Other than that, it’s up to them to come up with the most creative display possible to present their business to holiday walkers, who will also serve as the contest’s judges.

Those who cast their votes will be entered to win a $50 Madison Street gift certificate.

“You wouldn’t believe the competitive spirit that is being created by the live window display contest. I think it is really going to catch on,” said Kokenes.

And though business owners are extra cautious not to let any details of their plans slip out, the friendly trash-talking has already begun.

“I know we’re gonna win. Just tell them Wayne said we’re going to be #1,” said Wayne Schaeur of Schauer’s Ace Hardware. “It’s so different you wouldn’t believe it…it’s going to be unbelievable.”

Businesses that have signed on to participate so far also include Flav’our Cooking School, Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor, Forest Park National Bank, Quitsch Florist, Plan B Gallery, Accents by Fred, Moss Modern Flowers, Trage Brothers, Chix with Stix, The Prep Kitchen, Dahn Yoga, Fantastic Sams, Starbucks, Todd & Holland, Painted Board Studio and Jimmy’s Place.
