Sitting here at the computer, I’m listening to all the bells of all the churches in Salzburg, Austria as they ring out at the hour of the 250th birthday of Mozart. Quite a thrilling experience. I hope you are listening, too.
Not quite, but almost as famous as Mozart was Victor Lentini long a favorite of Forest Parkers, now all grown up working for Universal, with a lovely home, two cats and raises orchids in his basement. Vic took his sister,Jane Lentini Leisten to lunch at caffe de Luca last week. At lunch he announced the news of his engagement to Krassi Bobshezsky of Ploviv, Bulgaria. All Vic’s old friends wish him well.
Forest Park and Saint Peter’s are blessed with the return of Rev. Dean Lueking of Grace Lutheran to the pulpit of Saint Peter’s on February 5 at the 10:15 a.m. service. Listening to Rev. Lueking is an experience you owe yourself from time to time. This week he’ll tell about his recent travels in Israel. It will be fascinating, I promise you. No matter what your faith, this man is an inspiration. He goes beyond Christianity; he is a true Humanitarian.
A dog rescuer is dog lover Suzie Husted. An energetic local dog, filled with joie de vivre on one of those warm days last week, darted out the front door and down the street, her person shouting the dog’s name while futilely clapping hands. All to no avail. The discouraged human gave up, went back home and notified the police. After a few minutes the person’s phone rang, and it was Suzie Husted with the frightened dog in tow. Dog and friend were happily united, no recriminations, just joy at being together again.
A good key finder and face rememberer is Maribel Correra at Athena’s on Desplaines. A customer who hadn’t been in the shop for many months stopped by to make a purchase. Maribel thought the customer looked familiar and asked “Are these yours?” as she reached into a drawer and held up a set of keys. The shocked customer didn’t even remember being in Athena’s!
Special happy birthday greetings to Rose Everson who was born on February 2, Groundhog Day. Her family said the day she was born was a cloudy, overcast day, luckily. So, since Rosie didn’t see her shadow she stayed out and joined the human race. Last call for high school senior music students. MacDowell Artists annual scholarship competition will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on February 5 at 2 p.m. Applications must be in by February 1.
