I’m very pleased to hear that you read and enjoy this column, and I’m especially happy that you decided to become part of it by sending in a handwriting sample.
The first thing that caught my eye about your writing was the very large lower loops (ys and gs). These huge loops tell me that your imagination is very active and that you have excessive emotional needs. You are dominated by powerful forces related to survival and sexual imperatives. These instincts make you restless so that you need constant variety and change. Much of your energy and time is spent trying to satisfy your enormous appetites for money, sex and amusement. Because your emotional needs are so great, much of your physical stamina and creative ideas are used trying to satisfy them.
Even though your basic drives are strong, you have learned to deal with them. Your baselines are straight and this tells me that your mind exercises discipline over your emotions. You work on, and have succeeded in, being emotionally stable, dependable, composed and orderly. You are sensitive and compassionate but seldom overly-demonstrative.
Because you know yourself and your limitations so well you actually have become reserved, self-conscious, overly-sensitive and somewhat fearful of the future. To cope with these fears you have become tenacious and aggressive. You need to be in control to feel secure. You are truly a complex person emotionally.
Jim, there are many angles in your writing and this tells me that you have much mental energy and that much of your aggression is acted out intellectually. Your mind is sharp and your thinking is analytical and logical. The only way to convince you is to present you with all the facts. You prefer argument to compromise. You are disciplined, firm and steadfast in your convictions. Your determination to succeed and your ability to work intelligently and energetically make you a valuable employee, but you are not always easy to get along with because you don’t “just go along.”
You take pride in your work and in your personal appearance, and you are very sensitive to criticism.
All in all, Jim, you are a man with significant intellectual ability and strong emotional drives. This combination gives you much potential for success in your life, but your success will depend largely on your skill at channeling your energies counteractively.
