On Saturday, June 17, members and supporters of Progress Center for Independent Living will discuss the critical issues facing people with disabilities with local policy makers. Among these will be State Representative Karen Yarbrough, who will be presented with an award for her efforts.

One key topic will be the impact of the state’s reliance on nursing homes rather than on more cost-effective in-home care that is preferred overwhelmingly by people with disabilities, old and young. Another major topic will be affordable and accessible housing in suburban communities.

All are welcome to attend the meeting, which will be held at the Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Boulevard, from 1 to 4 p.m. Please RSVP at 209-1500 by June 15
