Last week a sweet big black dog was almost overcome with heat stroke here in front of my house. His young, eager owner had him at the dog park for almost an hour in 90 degree plus sunny extreme heat. By the time the two of them reached my house the dog collapsed. So, please, please remember to not exercise your dog too much in hot weather. If the dog does become overheated, dousing with cold water will help, but sometimes it’s too late.
The young man loves his dog, but just wasn’t aware of the consequences of over exercising on a hot day. I sincerely hope the dog is fine again. When it’s 85 degrees or hotter, don’t let your dog out for very long. Just like dogs left in cars with the “window open.” All the windows would have to be open wide enough for the dog to jump out to escape the rapid heat buildup inside a car, even in the shade on a hot day. Leave Fido home, he’ll forgive you and will soon forget he’d been alone for an hour.
Congratulations to Tim Lore who is now a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus! Tim is very proud of this honor, and we are all proud of Tim. Mr. Lore is also a faithful Friend of the Forest Park Library as well as a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Bonnie and Pat Smiglia came back for the pancake breakfast at the Legion last week. The Simiglias are now living at the Lexington in Lombard and liking it very much. But they will always be Forest Parkers at heart.
Congratulations to Dustin (Skinner) Murguia, son of Karen Skinner ,one of the founders of Circle Theatre. Dustin recently graduated from Dominican University in River Forest and is now part of the Circle Theatre crew. History repeating itself.
On Thursday. June 29 an author discussion and signing of P.D.Parrish’slatest Louis Kincaid Mystery, An Unquiet Grave at Centuries & Sleuths, 7419 Madison Street.
