The Forest Park park board has tentatively decided to name The Park’s multipurpose field Veterans Stadium. No, they’re not Philadelphia Eagles fans. They hope to dedicate the field on Veterans Day and are investigating erecting a plaque on that occasion.
“The field will be dedicated to the men and women who have served the nation in the armed forces,” said Park Board President Bud Boy. A new American flag has been recently erected at the field, which is mostly used for soccer.
Highlights from the recent No Gloves National softball tournament will be shown on cable television on Sept. 2 and 9, according to Park District Executive Director Dave Novak. Softball360.com sent a camera crew to the tournament and conducted interviews with players and fans. The broadcast will be on Comcast Sports Channel, which is channel 37. For exact times, go to softball360.com. Novak said it was the first time the crew from softball 360.com saw high level 16-inch softball, and they were very impressed.
“They really only do 12-inch softball, and they were impressed with the game,” said Novak.
Highlights may also be shown during rain delays of games on Comcast Sports Channel.
The park district is hosting a Dave Novak Retirement Golf Outing on Oct. 3. Golf will start at noon at the Carriage Green Golf Course located in Darien. The cost is $65, which includes 18 holes of golf and a cart, grilled hot dogs, brats, cheeseburgers, salads, beer and a two-hour open bar. Contact the Park District of Forest Park, 366-7500 if you would like to attend.
The park board will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 to interview two construction management firms which are bidding on the contract to oversee the renovation of the Administration Building. Interviews with the firm are to begin at 6:30 p.m.
