A candidates’ forum for those running for the District 91 Board of Education has been canceled because the race is no longer contested.

The March 21 event was expected to draw the four candidates running for three four-year terms. However, Mary Win Connor withdrew her name from the ballot in anticipation of earning an appointment to the board on March 15. Connor was offered the remainder of former board secretary Charles Marinier’s term after Marinier resigned in April. The seat would put Connor on the board until April 2009, when she would need to run for re-election.

The Forest Park Chamber of Commerce, Main Street and the Forest Park Review had planned to sponsor the forum.

The remaining candidates in the election are all incumbents. Glenn Garlisch, Francis Mott and Sean Blaylock are running uncontested for four-year terms. Both Mott and Blaylock were appointed to the board in 2005, and as appointees, must run for election in April. Rather than seeking the right to serve the remaining two years of their appointed terms, both Mott and Blaylock are running for four-year terms vacated by Catherine Denham and Steve Johnsen.

The District 91 election will be held the same day as the municipal elections on April 17.
