Congratulations to Forest Park’s stellar volunteers, Gigi Alfano and Floyd Schultz, who were named as the Senior Citizen Volunteers of the Year by county Sheriff Tom Dart. Gigi (Gloria) and Floyd have been active in the Neighborhood Watch program for 23 years.

Get well wishes to Irma Koch who is improving daily and has recently been transferred from an Oak Park hospital to the downtown facility at Rush. At the new location she will receive rehabilitation so she can be back here with us soon.

If you were lucky enough to attend the All School Picnic last Thursday you were able to enjoy the musical offerings of students from The Gasse School of Music, one of Forest Park’s proudest institutions. Sarah Gasse is pleased to tell us that enrollment among Forest Park youngsters in the school has been growing steadily. Some of Mrs. Gasse’s students who participated in the picnic concert are, Kathleen Turek, Ellen Nemivant and Conor Hughes, all on violin. Susan Stuzman’s violin students were, Hubertine Henzler, Katie Rueda and Ellen Nemivant. Piano students of Hulya Alpakin include Helen and Maezi Roach and Anna and Courtney Walton.

Dr. Daniel Gasse and his wife Sarah were among the founders of the Music for Life Foundation, which presents unusual concerts from time to time to help defray the costs of music lessons for promising students of limited means. Lessons are available on all string instruments, piano, classical guitar and others. You can call the Gasse School for more information at (708) 488-8605.

Congratulations to Citizens United in Forest Park on its third birthday. This organization was formed for the benefit of all Forest Park residents. Anyone in town can become a member. It is strictly a non-political organization. Dissent and disagreement are commonplace, no “bobble heads” or rubber stamp members. Meetings are held at St. Peter’s Church at the corner of Hannah and Adams streets, and notices appear in the paper and on their website. Their rummage sale is held annually at the Howard Mohr Community Center, but the administrator there denied the organization access for the sale this year. The sale will be held Oct. 8 and a few venues are under consideration.

Ken Snyder will be leaving the CUinFP board and was given a plaque honoring him for his service.

Belated happy birthday wishes to Steve Backman who celebrated on May 25, and to Philip Tenca on the 28th.
