Congratulations to Jacqueline Potratz who was named to the dean’s list at Loyola University. Jackie is a graduate of Forest Park Middle School and IHM high school.
Gary and Andrea Balsavich are grandparents again. Peyton Elizabeth was born on Feb. 14, 2007, weighing 7-pounds 9-ounces, and measuring 19.5-inches long. Peyton has a big brother, John Paul.
It’s midsummer and hot, so naturally everyone is off on vacation someplace. Gloria and Steve Backman found a cool place; cool in both the traditional and contemporary sense, when they paid a visit to Nova Scotia. And they loved it. Sixteen days there, they drove clockwise around the perimeter of the peninsula and stayed in historic inns and B&Bs. They went whale watching in the Bay of Fundy, fossil hunting in Joggins, bird watching at Bird Islands, and visited lighthouses, lighthouses, and more lighthouses. The Backmans were impressed with the environmental awareness of the Canadians, who really want to preserve the natural beauty of their country. Incidentally, they do plan to return again and again.
Meanwhile, Jim and Desi Becker bundled up daughters, Georgia, Josie and 6-month-old Thalia for a “fun-filled” two weeks around Williamsburg, D.C. Virginia Beach and other East Coast locales. Jim and Desi had a busy time and will be resting up for a while after all the fun.
Shhh, don’t tell anybody, but a very special guest may be appearing at Centuries & Sleuths on July 15. Don’t tell Augie I told you.
Stefani Whalen entertained her old friend, Elisha Apilado for a week. The girls became friends in kindergarten and stayed friends through Garfield, middle school and Trinity High School. Elisha is visiting Forest Park from Mesquite, Texas. Among the old friends who got together were Jessica Witt, Suzanne Jasper, Diana Dylewski, Ina Hitre, Manuel Nacpil, Cedric and Conrad Javier.
Welcome to new baby member of St. Bernardine’s Zoe Solberg. Zoe’s parents are Pat and Laurie Solberg; grandparents are Joan and Walter Solberg.

On July 14, Ruth Loyd received a special birthday gift from her daughter’s mother-in-law, Margie Neff of Oak Park. Margie donated a book to the Forest Park Library in Ruth’s honor.
