Federal subpoenas were delivered to the Proviso Township High School District on Monday for school board records dating back to the start of 2007.

District officials confirmed that records were requested as part of a federal investigation, however, administrators offered no official comment. Spokesperson Angela McDaniel said information regarding the subpoena was made available to board members. She said she had not yet discussed the matter with Superintendent Stan Fields as of Monday afternoon, and that Fields was out of the office “with family.”

“I have no other comment,” McDaniel said.

Fields did not return several phone calls to his cell phone, and McDaniel referred any questions to the district’s legal counsel.

Board member Robert Cox, a Forest Park resident, acknowledged he was notified of the subpoena and said the request was for written and audio records of the school board’s actions dating back to Jan. 1. Cox said no one person was singled out by investigators and he had no knowledge as to the target of the inquiry.

Calls to the U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, were not immediately returned.
