Little League registrations
Registration for the 2008 Little League season in Forest Park will begin next month with a signup event at the Community Center. Boys and girls interested in playing baseball, softball or T-ball next year can register on Dec. 1 at the Community Center between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Fees for boys in the junior and senior division are $100. Softball costs will be $75 per player, as will T-ball.
Little League President Rich Gray said this will not be the only opportunity for players to register. Though no dates are firm yet, registration events are also being planned for January and February. Additional information is available on the organization’s website, www.forestparklittleleague.org.
Extended transit services
An agreement with the Pace transit provider to keep Dial-A-Ride services in Forest Park was reached Monday by a unanimous vote of the village council. The annual arrangement helps ensure that elderly and disabled residents have transportation options available to them, in addition to the widely used route service. In a letter to the mayor, Pace said the Dial-A-Ride program can be continued despite “another financially tight and uncertain year in 2008.”
Tax levy projected at $5.8M
Village officials are estimating a $5.87 million tax levy will be needed for the new fiscal year, helping to cover a 12 percent spike in the spending plan for 2008 over the previous year. The levy amount discussed at the Nov. 26 council meeting was for estimate purposes only and is subject to change.
Council members voted in July to adopt a $21 million budget for fiscal year 2008, which included roughly $1.8 million in new spending over the 2007 budget. With recent increases to several fees, the village is estimating revenues will outpace expenses by approximately 1 percent.
