Gustav W. Staats, 87, Former River Forest resident
Gustav W. Staats, 87, of Marshfield, Wis., died on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007 at Three Oaks of Marshfield. He is a former resident of River Forest and Milwaukee.
Staats was born on Nov. 30, 1919, in River Forest, the son of Gustav A. and Helen (Goltermann) Staats. He was a graduate of Oak Park High School. He obtained his bachelors, masters, and PhD in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He worked as a design engineer for Allis Chalmers in West Allis for several years. He then joined the engineering faculty of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
Gustav and Evelyn R. Zars were united in marriage on May 7, 1949, in Forest Park.
He is survived by a son and a daughter, David Staats of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mary (Arnie) Peck of Marshfield. He is further survived by two grandchildren, Nathan and Adeline Peck.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 58 years, Evelyn, who died on Oct. 13, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, Wis. Rev. Mark A. Krueger will officiate. Burial will take place in Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park, Illinois. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:30 pm until service time.
Memorials may be designated in his name to the Illinois Institute of Technology Fund.
