Rep. Yarbrough organizes foreclosure workshop

State Rep. Karen Yarbrough, D-7th District, will host a workshop and networking session for residents with concerns about housing foreclosures. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 8 at Bellwood village hall, homeowners will have a chance to meet with mortgage loan providers, housing assistance groups and various state agencies that can assist those at risk of losing their homes.

Those in attendance with have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from the various agencies, according to a press release, and attend half-hour workshops explaining how foreclosure works and what options are available to residents. Lenders committed to financing new fixed rate mortgages will be on hand.

Arts council sponsors exhibit

A free exhibit sponsored by the Oak Park Area Arts Council will be featured at the Oak Park Arms this month, with the kickoff event on Friday, March 7. Beginning at 7 p.m., the public is invited to a wine and cheese reception at the Arms, located at 408 S. Oak Park Ave., to celebrate the works of local artist Jonathan Franklin.

Paintings and sculptures of Franklin’s will be on display through April 9 and on March 10 he will host a free workshop on abstract sculpture at 1 p.m. Materials for the workshop, titled “Giant Mini Paper Sculptures,” will be provided.

Easter fun

The Howard Mohr Community Center will host an Easter Eggstravaganza this month where children can win prizes, play games and have their photo taken with the Easter Bunny. The March 15 event begins at 10:30 a.m. and will feature a performance by the Happiness Club, a group of kids who perform original songs that deliver a values-centered message.
