Proviso Township High School District 209 is looking for a new superintendent who can begin work this summer, and Monday interviewed three finalists for the position.

Board members for the Proviso high schools are attempting to replace Superintendent Robert Libka, whose contract expires June 30. Libka was hired in late September following a brief stint as the district’s interim administrator, but it wasn’t six months later that board members voted in March not to renew his contract.

Libka’s ouster will mark the fifth change in the superintendent’s office in less than three years.

Proviso board members received some 30 resumes expressing interest in the job. With the help of a Highland Park search firm, that stack was whittled to a half dozen candidates. Those six were interviewed by the board earlier this month to further narrow the field.

The three finalists – whose names have not been released by the district – were interviewed Monday by a panel of teachers, community members and other stakeholders. Board President Chris Welch said he expects a final interview will be conducted by the school board, and a hiring decision is expected to be made by June 16.
