A relative of Forest Park Commissioner Mark Hosty has been missing since Sunday when a storm system swept through Berrien County, Mich., where the commissioner’s second-cousin was visiting a family-owned cabin off Lake Michigan. About 30 people, according to Hosty, are searching for the missing 27-year-old, who lives in River Forest.

Robert Hosty Jr. was last seen by relatives at about 3 a.m. June 15. His sandals were found on a beach near the cabin, according to Mark Hosty, but there has been no sign of the missing individual.

“I saw him Friday,” Mark Hosty said of his cousin. “He stopped in to say hi on his way up to grab a sandwich at Jimmy John’s.”

Mark Hosty manages a bar at the corner of Circle and Madison streets that shares building space with the sandwich shop.

The commissioner said he comes from a large family and that there is a contingency braced to help with the search if authorities in Michigan ask for help. The Berrien County sheriff’s department is heading the effort, according to Mark Hosty. In a statement released by the agency, the department said that foul play is not suspected.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 269-983-7141.
