Geraldine Bruhn, 81, Den mother and volunteer
Geraldine “Gerry” M. (McCord) Bruhn, 81, of Forest Park, died on June 20, 2008.
Bruhn was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Forest Park VFW, Post 7181 for over 45 years, serving in various capacities, including president, vice president and treasurer. She was an active Cub Scout den mother, worked as a volunteer at Hines V.A. Hospital for over 30 years, served as an election judge, and assisted with the Red Cross.
She is survived by her sons Mark, David, and Matthew; her sisters, Joan Billek and Patricia Kielty; and her grandchildren, James, Julie, Thomas, Janet, Melissa, Laura, Kirsty, and Salina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Bruhn, and her son, John C. Bruhn.
Visitation was held June 24 at Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 Madison St., Forest Park. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 25 at Zimmerman-Hartnett, followed by interment at Concordia Cemetery.
Susan Bale, 65, Longtime Betsy Ross teacher
Susan Ann Bale, 65, of Forest Park, died on June 23, 2008. Bale, who graduated from Marquette University with a degree in education, loved to teach and spent her life promoting literacy.
For 35 years she taught at Betsy Ross Elementary School in Forest Park. She served on the library board in Forest Park and was active in many charities, including PADS, and volunteered with the Humanitarian Service Project in Carol Stream.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Bale; her nephew, Michael; and her niece, Jennifer. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Bale.
Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Bernardine Church, 7246 Harrison St., in Forest Park at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Forest Park Public Library are appreciated.
