An unoccupied coach house at 915 S. Ferdinand Ave. caught fire Monday, but crews were able to get the blaze under control within 30 minutes, according to Chief Steve Glinke. Several 911 calls were received shortly after 2:20 p.m. July 21, according to Glinke. The fire is believed to have started on the first floor of the structure in a garage and storage area. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
No residents or firefighters were injured as a result of the flames, but several nearby structures were damaged. One building to the south was directly impacted by the spreading flames while the vinyl siding on another melted as a result of the heat, said Glinke.
