Time capsule stalled by renovations

Items collected for a time capsule to be buried in commemoration of the village’s centennial are yet to be placed in the ground, though the celebration was held in June 2007. The time capsule and its contents were showcased as part of a tribute to the renaming of the village in 1907 from Harlem to Forest Park. At the time of last summer’s event, village officials expected to bury the capsule in a park at the junction of Circle and Randolph streets by October. That park marks the spot of the original village hall offices.

However, with renovations to that park yet to be completed-even one year later -the mayor’s office said it makes little sense to bury the time capsule. A date for completing those renovations, and burying the capsule, has not been decided.

Learn how to file a tax appeal

A workshop hosted by the Proviso Township assessor will give property owners a lesson in filing tax appeals. Beginning at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Westchester village hall, Assessor Michael Corrigan and his staff will review what impacts the recent property reassessments will have on tax bills. Residents will also be given a tutorial on filing an appeal. The necessary paperwork for those appeals will be available at the meeting, according to a statement released by Corrigan’s office.

The Westchester municipal building is located at 10300 Roosevelt Road.
