Ralph N. Aasbrein, 65, Surviving family in Forest Park

Ralph Normann Aasbrein, 65, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., has died. Aasbrein was a former resident of Oak Park.

He was born in Chicago, the son of the late Christ and Emma Normann Aasbrein. Before retiring he worked for A.W. Wendell Architects of Downers Grove, Ill.

Aasbrein is survived by two daughters, Hilary Bryson of Florence, S.C. and Marete Steger of Forest Park; sister Victoria Kraml of Western Springs, Ill.; four grandchildren, Christopher Mistrata, Dulcinea McKinney, Jack and Hannah Steger.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, 4210 W. Palmetto St., Florence, S.C., is handling the arrangements.

Harry G. Holmberg, 87, Former Lincoln school custodian

Harry G. Holmberg, 87, of Forest Park, died Jan. 1, 2009.

Holmberg was born in Chicago on Dec. 15, 1921. For more than 30 years he worked as a custodian at Oak Park’s Abraham Lincoln School. He served in WWII as an airplane mechanic.

Holmberg is survived by his wife, Jane C. (Pulfrey); three children, Susan Brennan, Bonita Douglas and Tom Holmberg; and three grandchildren, Margot Brennan, Ann Douglas and Carrie Douglas.

He survived two grandchildren, Paul Douglas and Flint Brennan.

Funeral services were held Jan. 5 and interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, West Cook area office, suite 3 south, 7234 W. Ogden Ave., Riverside, Ill., 60546-2207, are appreciated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 Madison, Forest Park.

William L. Bowlus, 78, Surviving family in Forest Park

William “Big Daddy” Bowlus, 78, of Itasca, has died.

He is survived by his children, Bill Bowlus, Barry Bowlus and Carrie-Esther Bowlus of Forest Park; grandchildren Rachel and Kristina; and a niece, Bethie Chartrand, and nephew, Jimmy Culham, of Canada.

The Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 Madison, held memorial services Jan. 8. Interment will be private.
