The Howard Mohr Community Center, at the corner of Jackson and Desplaines, serves as Forest Park‘s warming center during the winter months. However, the center does not generally serve as an overnight shelter and is available to the public only during regular business hours. In the event of an emergency, such as a residential fire, displaced residents would be able to stay overnight, according to municipal officials.

The police department also welcomes those looking for reprieve, though the station is not able to provide beds.

An online database maintained by the state allows the public to search for warming centers in their area. That resource is available at www.keepwarm.illinois.gov/warmingcenter.cfm.
