League of Women Voters in Proviso
A new branch of the League of Women Voters may be taking root in Proviso Township. According to the Oak Park and River Forest league, a group of 20 people from Maywood, Westchester and Forest Park met recently to begin organizing. Members of the new organization would attend meetings held by local government organizations as a way of keeping their respective communities informed of local doings. A roster of interested parties has been filed with the League of Women Voters of Illinois in Chicago, and the Oak Park and River Forest group is lending assistance.
At park, decorative wall may be next
Efforts to beautify a municipal park at the corner of Circle and Randolph appear centered on constructing a decorative brick wall, though it’s unclear when the structure might be installed.
Jennifer Wolfe, chairwoman of the recreation board, which makes advisory recommendations to the village council, presented the option to elected officials during a Jan. 12 meeting. Generally, Wolfe received support from the council, but no official action can be taken until the project is more clearly defined. Mayor Anthony Calderone suggested Wolfe bring design specifications for which the village can solicit estimates and then decide on a course of action. Preliminary estimates provided by Wolfe peg the project at $14,000 to $21,000.
In 2008, the unnamed park saw roughly $10,000 worth of decorative fencing installed around a playground there. The new fence replaced a chain link barrier that had been removed in 2007.
