The initial fines levied for several parking violations will be increased by $5, thanks to an April 13 vote by the village council.
The general minimum fine imposed for minor violations was increased from $25 to $30, according to the new rates adopted by council members. Also, parking at an expired meter will result in a $20 ticket, up from $15. Those who leave their cars in neighborhoods where parking is not allowed from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. will be fined $30 instead of $25.
The good news for scofflaws is that no other increases to the fines were imposed, meaning that tickets paid late will not see a corresponding bump.
Increasing parking ticket fines is part of the council’s strategy to combat declining tax revenues. The new rates take hold immediately.
