Two of Forest Park’s seniors were recognized by local and county officials for their volunteer efforts in the area. During the 17th annual Sheriff’s Senior Citizen Medal of Honor Ceremony, Margaret Todd and Phylis DeVilbiss were called into the spotlight for their work at the Economy Shop in Oak Park.

Todd has volunteered at the store for more than 15 years, and DeVilbiss for more than three. In addition to working together, the women are also neighbors in Forest Park.

Nominations for the awards are made through local government offices, and winners are chosen by the sheriff’s department. More than 80 seniors in Cook County were recipients, according to a statement released by county law enforcement.

Todd and DeVilbiss were handed their medals by Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, Mayor Anthony Calderone and Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of the Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox franchises. Reinsdorf was also recognized during the April 15 ceremony for charitable giving.
