First thing Monday morning, nationally recognized conservators from a firm on Des Plaines Avenue met with representatives of the Park District of Oak Park in front of one of the neighboring village’s most magnetic points: the World War I Memorial at Scoville Park, on the northwest corner of the Lake Street and Oak Park Avenue intersection.

A nationwide search for the best firm to the restoration job on the memorial led Oak Parkers to Conservation of Sculpture & Objects Studio, a Forest Park firm at 900 S. Des Plaines. A fence went up around the monument Monday afternoon. Workers have a Veterans Day deadline to secure, repair and clean the almost 84-year-old monument.
