A former consultant hired by the village to oversee a water project in Forest Park has been sentenced to 16 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to tax fraud. Prosecutors had requested a sentence of 30 months.
Anthony Bruno, 56, was ordered on Sept. 16 to report to a Duluth, Minn., prison by Jan. 11, 2010. The order concludes the federal case for which Bruno was indicted in January, alleging he filed false tax documents in 2006. According to the indictment, prosecutors said Bruno inappropriately deducted another tax ruling from his company’s earnings, claiming a loss of more than $100,000.
In addition to overseeing the water project in Forest Park, Bruno was hired as a consultant by Proviso Township High School District 209. He has also worked in Bellwood, Melrose Park and Cicero.
