The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest will host its 18th annual cemetery walk, The Tale of the Tombstones: Strangers Among Us, on Sunday, Oct. 18 at Forest Home Cemetery, 863 Desplaines in Forest Park.
Costumed interpreters portray folks buried at Forest Home Cemetery, including victims of the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 that killed over 50 million worldwide, and Joe Hill, the Troubadour of Discontent, immortalized by Joan Baez during her performance at Woodstock 40 years ago.
Edgar Allen Poe will also be on hand to greet visitors and share stories as part of the Big Read sponsored by the public libraries of Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park.
This 2-hour walking tour (wear comfortable shoes) benefits The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest.
Tours leave every 10 minutes beginning at 1 p.m.; the last leaves at 2 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 25. Tickets are $15 for non-members and $10 for members.
