It may be more difficult to grab a table at The Golden Steer, a fixture in the local dining scene for decades, after WTTW-Ch. 11’s Check, Please featured rave reviews of the throwback steakhouse.
The episode featuring the Forest Park restaurant debuted on Friday night with encore presentations running through the weekend. On Check, Please, regular diners offer a recommendation for others to try, and then during a taped discussion with host Alpana Singh, debate whether the place is worth visiting. The Golden Steer, by all accounts, is worth visiting.
One reviewer said he was “pleasantly surprised” by the great steaks and French onion soup, according to the show’s Web site. Another said she “would not change a thing” about the place. Chris Claps, a resident here, recommended The Golden Steer for its tasty food at easy to swallow prices.
