Work on an expanded – and arguably more appealing – McDonald’s restaurant is slated to begin early next month, according to Village Administrator Tim Gillian. The project, approved in April 2009, calls for constructing a new restaurant at the corner of Madison and Desplaines, which is immediately north of the fast-food giant’s current location in Forest Park.
Building a new McDonald’s will require that the existing restaurant be demolished, which means consumers will have to get their fix at another location. According to Gillian, the fire department will use the current building for a one-day training exercise before it’s torn down. The department’s training will not involve battling a live fire, said Gillian.
The new restaurant will feature a number of aesthetic features meant to enhance its curb appeal. A stone fence, more subdued lighting and signage, and awnings are slated for the project, according to plans approved by the village.
