After a cold, gloomy winter, the weatherman blessed us with a beautiful and sunny day on Saturday. High school seniors are invited to compete for music scholarships offered by MacDowell Artists. Auditions will be held Saturday, May 15 from 1:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, on East Avenue at Randolph. MacDowell scholarships are very generous. Winners need not plan to major in music in college; just continue their music studies after high school graduation. If you are, or you know of a high school senior who might want to enter the competition, please contact Elena Rico for an application at 409-0922, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Good luck to Jenna Calderone, daughter of Harry Calderone, who has joined the Air National Guard and will be leaving for Texas soon.
Everyone is invited to attend a solo art exhibit by Marc LeBland at The Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor on Saturday, March 27 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. The Brown Cow is located at 7347 Madison (as if you didn’t know).
You are also invited to attend a free benefit concert for Haitian relief at St. John Lutheran Church, 305 Circle, on Sunday, March 14 at 4 p.m.
A worthy cause if ever there was one is TNR, or Trap-Neuter-Release. This agency promotes the curtailing of the cat population – humanely. Feral cats usually do not want to live in a home, they prefer the freedom of the streets. But their overpopulation results in the suffering of innocent kittens and adult cats. Call 829-6013 for more information. Or go to email@example.com. The mailing address is P.O Box 851, Maywood, IL, 60153.
