When it’s too darned bumpy, that’s when.

But the Village of Forest Park is about to fix Greenberg Road – the almost-secret, sort-of-creepy, and entirely pockmarked east-west shortcut from DesPlaines Avenue to Circle.

This is the road that you enter just south of the tilting cemetery post on DesPlaines and which parallels one of the Jewish cemeteries and the rump end of the commercial buildings on Industrial Drive.

This is the road that, on a summer’s evening, you can drive with your windows lowered and the music cranked so, as you’re navigating hundreds of potholes, the kids can be holding their breath in the back seat to survive the lurking spirits – and you can be gaping into the wide-open doors of the warehouses wondering just what it is that folks do in there.

What you can be sure about soon are the details of this summer’s repaving of Greenberg Road.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, village officials are hosting a meeting about the construction schedule, work hours and traffic-control plan for improvements to Greenberg Road. This meeting will be in the lower level of village hall, 517 DesPlaines Ave.

If you’ve got any questions, call John Doss, director of Public Works, at 708-615-6212.
