What’s it take to get you to mail back your 2010 census form?
How about a parade?
Forest Park is ready to march in its effort to maximize the return of census forms, an accurate count being of benefit to local governments and schools when it comes to funding.
This Saturday there will be a marching band, a former NFL player and chili dogs as enticements to mail back the census form. The event starts at 10:30 Saturday morning when people gather at the park district headquarters on Harrison Street. There’ll be hot chocolate and, of course, blank census forms for residents to fill out.
Then at 11:30 the parade steps off and proceeds north on Desplaines to village hall.
The Proviso East High School Marching Band will lead the march to a mailbox in front of village hall, where residents will be able to send in their completed census forms.
Featured at the census march will be former NFL player Marques Sullivan, who will be available for autographs. The Forest Park Fire Department will be making hot dog and chili dog lunches after the parade. The village will be offering free raffle tickets for a $100 Walmart gift card to residents, as well as free T-shirts and hats. There will also be $25 iTunes gift cards available through a group called Voto Latino.
