Throughout October, members of the Forest Park Fire Department will be wearing pink T-shirts while on duty to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Those same T-shirts will be on sale for $15 each, with all proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Lieutenant Phil Chiappetta organized the effort in honor of his sister, Gina Loster, who died of breast cancer last year at the age of 40.

“I thought it would be a good idea to do it here in Forest Park,” he said, after noticing that other fire departments across the country held similar fundraisers.

The firefighters have already sold more than 300 T-shirts. Anyone interested in purchasing one can contact the fire department at 708-366-1234 or e-mail Chiappetta at pchiappetta@forestpark.net. To make an online donation, please visit passionatelypink.org and search ‘Forest Park.’ Their team name is ‘Forest Park Firefighters Local 2753’ with the ID number of 3331141.

Food distributer Bella Nico, Inc. will also donate a portion of its sales to the charity during the month of October. The company’s products, which include frozen vegetables and pasta, can be purchased in Forest Park at Ultra Foods, 7520 W. Roosevelt Rd.
