Laureen Thornton, one of Forest Park’s great stalwarts and a resident for more than 50 years, died on Dec. 1.
Thornton was an elected official for many years with the unusual distinction of having been elected to both the village council and the District 91 elementary school board. While on the school board she also served as board president. Beyond elected office, Thornton was an active volunteer across the village and was the past president and current treasurer of the Forest Park Kiwanis Club.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 5 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 W. Madison St. Her funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 6 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Bernardine Catholic Church, where Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
