Forest Park police arrested two suspects on the afternoon of Dec. 8 who were later charged by Oak Park police with attempted murder and armed robbery.
Twenty-year-old Northlake resident Diego Garcia and 21-year-old Cassandra Lavold of Carol Stream were nabbed by Forest Park units on Interstate-290 after being pursued by Oak Park police in connection with the theft of a woman’s purse in Oak Park. Garcia reportedly held-up a woman at gunpoint on Harrison and Lombard, and then shot at a witness who pursued him. Lavold purportedly acted as the getaway driver.
Oak Park Police and Forest Park Police then pursued Garica and Lavold onto the Eisenhower until the suspects ran out of gas near the Desplaines ramp.
Forest Park Detective Sgt. Mike Keating called it a “text-book stop and arrest,” and noted that six or seven Forest Park and Oak Park units “converged” around the suspects, who surrendered without further resistance.
“It’s a good example of police departments working in unison,” Keating added.
The offenders were turned over to Oak Park police and processed on the abovementioned charges.
Both are being held at the Cook County Dept. of Corrections.
