Area schools began to announce closures today in response to what is being called a blizzard that will go down in history.

Proviso Township’s District 209 high schools were in session today but announced closures for tomorrow. Those schools include Proviso East, Proviso West and Proviso Science and Math Academy.

Classes will resume on Thursday at 9 a.m., D209 spokesperson Taquoya Kennedy said. All after-school activities were cancelled today.

District 91 Supt. Lou Cavallo said he wasn’t sure if schools would be open tomorrow. He plans to make that decision at 4 a.m. tomorrow.

D91’s schools include: Betsy Ross Elementary School, Field-Stevenson Elementary School, Grant-White Elementary School, Garfield Elementary School and Forest Park Middle School.

The Chicago metropolitan area is supposed to be hit with up to 20 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
