Chris Harris hosted a political fundraiser at Molly Malone’s on Mar. 12 to promote his run for village commissioner.
Harris sees himself as an independent, with a strong sense of responsibility when it comes to political office. His campaign has largely been a grassroots effort, with the candidate himself pounding the pavement every Sunday.
He is not entirely new to politics, though: last year he ran unsuccessfully for first district Cook County commissioner. Earlean Collins won that seat.
If he is elected, he said he will preserve and expand Forest Park’s green space, make upgrading Roosevelt Road a priority, practice more prudent spending and push for a more transparent government – one that also contains less vitriol.
“I love Forest Park. It has such a friendly atmosphere, but that friendliness doesn’t translate to our local politics.”
