Forest Park police are advising heavy-footed motorists cruising down Madison Street to ease off the gas.

Officers are carefully patrolling the Madison Street and Harlem Avenue intersection for drivers who do not yield to pedestrians and this solar-paneled digital board is a reminder to slow down.

The explicit warning also lists the number of tickets that were issued on a certain day to reinforce its message.

“We’ve definitely had an issue with people failing to yield to pedestrians,” said Police Chief Jim Ryan. “It’s not so much our residents as it is people traveling through town.”

Ryan said the department received the board in 2008 via a US Homeland Security grant.
