It’s Rick Kogan! Rick Kogan! Rick “Hogan” was a real Freudian slip. When I was in sixth grade I fell in love with a seventh grader named Rick Hogan. He became a priest and is long gone, but love lasts forever. Apologies to Rick Kogan for the error.
Schauer’s Hardware Store is the crossroads of Forest Park, possibly the world. On a recent visit I talked to John Bell, an amateur underwater archaeologist who goes deep diving in Lake Michigan and other Great Lakes in search of underwater treasures; Web Musgrave, an apiarist (bee keeper) who keeps tends hives all across the state; and Neil and Kathy Driscoll, two home-beer brewers who make unusual brews in their own home – The Driscoll “breakfast beer” is made with Kap’n Krunch cereal. The duo recently volunteered an evening of beer brewing as a prize that was auctioned at the St. Edmond’s fundraiser.

Most books always welcome, but, please, no magazines, or encyclopedias. For more information, call the library at 708 366 7171, or visit its website at www.fppl.org. I know one patron who buys most of her Christmas gifts at these book sales.
St. John’s Lutheran Church and Walter Lutheran Academy are serious about keeping our planet green. The eighth graders, under the able direction of teacher Margaret Smith, and the cabinet-making talents of St. John’s member, Mark Holstein, have planted gardens in the school parking lot. Mr. Holstein made the garden borders and built a raised platform for rain barrels so watering the plants is easy.
Remember the Gloria Hansberry retirement celebration on Thursday, June 9, at 8:30 a.m. at St. Bernardine’s Church. Mass is followed by a dessert reception in Fearon Hall.
