Letter to the editor in response to the article “Flooding victim to village: step up, be responsbile

I was reading the paper and I just want to point out a couple of areas with erroneous information.

Our weather is getting extreme. The ice cap effect is cyclical and will surely snowball. Hence the strong storms we’re experiencing. I predict it will only get worse.

The Village has not caused this problem and we need to work as a community to prepare ourselves for future storms of “biblical” proportions.

I do not think it’s fair to put this on the Village as “its responsibility.” I really don’t think there is a financially feasible solution; you are only setting the village up for outrage by its residents for something that is out of the village’s control.

We, the homeowners, need to take whatever measures we can to protect our homes. This is not to say that the village is off the hook. It, too, needs to continue to find solutions and to work with the homeowners.

I feel that the flood prevention program instituted last year is a start, and I commend the elected officials for trying to help its residents in an impossible situation.
