We are so quick to find fault and often too slow to acknowledge the good in our local politicians.  Let it be known that Mayor Calderone was out and about from 1 a.m. the night of the big storm until late the next day dealing with the village’s response.

You have probably seen photos of the destruction Mother Nature wreaked upon Forest Park.  Have you noticed that the trees seem to fall from west to east a lot of the time?  So, the houses on the west side of the street are probably safer than those on the east side.

Our young stalwarts were also busy cleaning up all day after the storm. The following workers lent their hands: Matt Reich, Jim Becker, John Doss, Jay Trelenberg, Rocky Panzani, Chris Barren, Joe Kelty, J.T. Evans and Tyler Polich. Thanks, men. Forest Park is truly grateful!

Village hall, like several residences in town, suffered a temporary power outage due to the storm. Because of this, Katie Murphy was working with a double handicap: no lights and no right arm. Katie broke her wrist while dancing at a friend’s wedding a few weeks ago. It’s the second time she’s suffered the same injury!

Even though Schauer’s Hardware store was closed because of the power failure, Corrina Jantz was nice enough to open the door for Lindsey Chiapetta, who was in need of some merchandise. Lindsey is a Forest Park firefighter who is temporarily doing deskwork because she is expecting a baby in July. The baby will be Lindsey’s and her husband Phil’s first. Phil is also a firefighting Forest Parker.

Lindsey was at the store because a Forest Parker’s oxygen machine malfunctioned and the resident needed a part in order for it to reboot. Fortunately, Lindsey found that part at Schauer’s and was on her way.

Marge Buckholtz is back in the game after a frightful illness in April. Our Dr. Childs held out little hope for her, but he, Marge, and today’s medical technology worked together to help Marge out. Now, she’s looking better than ever (it might be, in part, due to those healthy breakfasts she and Al eat everyday at Andrea’s).

Everyone had a fine time at the roast in the backyard of St. John’s last week. The partygoers no doubt spent a lot of time admiring their handiwork in the garden.

It’s birthday time for the following Forest Parkers: Lillian Hough, Patty Marino, Rick Leninger, Norm Leinweber, Shirley Christell, Sandy Byrnes, Tracy Aleksy, Jack Christell, Frank Cassiani, Bud Boyd, June Doulder, Kathleen Lacklia Bell, Kay Madden, Tim Flight, Virginia Collis, Scott McAdam. Ben Reina, Matt Montes, Melissa Murga, Shannon Van Diepen, Sue Pyan, Michael Fox, Christy Lyn Cesario. Lucian Dubem, Tina Neubeiser, Scott Kaup, Patricia Gotier, Nancy Lovell, John O’Driscoll, Madalyn Little, Craig Lichtenberg, Emmitt Byrne.

And happy anniversary to Gert and Millard Phebus.

Thanks for your time!
