Here’s Jill Wagner with the Cub Scouts Keegan Brown and Kees Falconer assisting at a village function. Jill and her scouts are always willing to help. She’s a real tree lover and is hoping to start a project with her scouts aimed at identifying all the trees in Forest Park. It’d be nice for us to know which trees we’re looking at while we’re walking our dogs, heading to the store, or just going about our business outside.
Jill also invites anyone who is interested to come out and hear John Borland speak about the Revolutionary War as part of a lecture called the “Common Soldier of the American Revolution.” It’s happening at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave., on Saturday, July 9, at 11:30 a.m. John’s going to talk about what the soldiers wore, what they ate, what weapons they used, and much more. If you have questions about the event, call The Arms at 708 386 4040.
There’s a lot going on at the library this summer. If you want to join a book club, you have a choice between fiction and non-fiction. “The Paradox of Choice”, by Barry Schwartz will be discussed on Tuesday, July 12, at 7 p.m. The book’s theme appears to be “why more is less”. Fiction lovers can take in “The Wake of Forgiveness” by Bruce Machart: It tells the story of a young boy, his love of horses, and the inescapable connections between sons and their mothers. The latter group will meet on Thursday, July 28, at 7 p.m. All of the book club’s meetings are held at the library.
Remember baby story time: it’s on Tuesdays, at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Preschool story time is held on Wednesdays, at 10:30 a.m. Toddler story time is on Fridays at the same time, and it’s all happening at the library.
There’s also a whole lot going on over at Centuries & Sleuths, at 7419 Madison St. So, stop by and ask Augie, The Raven, what’s happening.
